I’m at the register unloading my cart onto the belt when I feel tap, tap on my back.
Lady behind me in line: “Excuse me. Are you paying cash for your groceries today?”
Me: “No, I’m not.”
Her: “Okay, have a blessed day.” And away she walks.
Now I want to know what her response would have been had I said yes, since I actually did have enough cash in my wallet to pay cash.
1 (the gracious interpretation): Maybe she is trying to earn a minimum spend qualification for points on her credit card, or is trying to accumulate points for a specific award. She would pay for your groceries with her card, and get the cash from you.
2 (the not gracious one): She has stolen a credit card and wants to convert that crime into cash by “paying” for your groceries with the stolen card, and pocketing your cash.
Both interesting hypotheses! If it was either of those, then I’m glad I didn’t get to find out. 😀 Thanks for reading and commenting, Rob!
One more possibility – she had a SNAP / WIC / Food Assistance card and wanted cash instead of groceries.
